Don't laugh... Dean Exotica FM?
I'm considering trading a Fender Super 60 amp (needs a little work) for a Dean Exotica FM (Flame Maple) in Translucent Blue.

I know Dean guitars are like battery acid here, so any reason I should do this trade or should I run away fast?

the guild is also equipped with a rare earth pickup, and wired to the endpin. you can still use endpin to hold strap, but also is a plugin for
electric amplification. This is my first "real" guitar and has lots of relic , dings, scratches, discoloration, etc. But it is all real wear and
tear from use. Functionally it is great, never goes out of tune.

I'd do it in a heartbeat, but the kicker is I'm in Cali, and this amp is HEAVY! I'd have better luck shipping a dead, bloody body than this beast. (it
would be cheaper, too)

I don't get the Dean hate, why? I had 3 Deans and they all played nice and my ex wife had a Dean acoustic and it played real sweet. Did Dean do
something to tic off the public?

If you've played the Dean and love it, then only consider if it's a fair trade FINANCIALLY, or if you could sell the Fender for more than it would
cost to buy a similar Dean.
I have really liked the Dean Acoustics I have played. I know they have a so-so reputation and I've never owned one, but I've played in the store and
like them.

actually the dean acoustic is the one guitar dean gets great review regardless of what it is. so if you like it, then go for it.
my only compliant is that its nut is at 1 5/8. i would prefer the nut to be at 1 11/16

It's "cool" to hate Deans, but I would rather play a Dean than a Fender any day. My old Cadzilla was one of the best guitars I ever owned.

I may be a bit biased... I have 3 guilds and used to have 4. Still regret trading the fourth. I think they may be the best guitars in the world.

I've seen too many Dean acoustic/electrics have the electronics fail or the top warping. Maybe if it's a true solid top it would be worth a gamble. I
would go with a Fender acoustic before a Dean any day.
I have a box made of wood and wire and i make noise with it every day.

I tried the Dean acoustics and really didn't mesh with the sound. If they are what you like then more power to you.

Its a pretty guitar, BUT, I've played a Dean Exotica before with the maple top and they don't sound very good acoustically. The reason is maple is a
TERRIBLE tone wood for acoustics as it doesn't vibrate much. These guitars are fine for playing live using the piezo pickup, but are fairly horrid for
just noodling acoustically. They sound thin and don't project volume for crap. Its not because its a Dean, its because of the maple top and from what
I understand its NOT a veneer, but a maple top.
