New build Updated: Finished :)
I went to my buddies house today to try out a Tele hes got, I have never played one, so wanted to try it out. I want to build one. He let me borrow it
for the week.
Anyway while there I saw an old project guitar that I gave him a few years back. A few years before that, a guy i knew gave me 4 of these guitars in
various stages of being built. His brother had purchased a building in New Rochelle NY, and found 5 of these in the basement. I built one out
completely sold 2 on ebay for $50 each. And gave one to David. So when I saw it today I was like wow, I forgot I gave this to you, he said I'm not
going to ever do anything to it, so take it back.
So I am going to build this one out different then the one I already have.
Here is a picture of the first one I completed.

The one I just got back has a bound rosewood fingerboard, No pics yet.
So 1st question is anyone try the Dream 90 humbucker size pickups from GFS? I don't have a P90 guitar, and think this would be perfect platform for
it.
2nd question, I am not sure on how I want to finish it, right now it has the same ugly brown stain on it. One thought is TV yellow. Then I got to
thinking how about TV yellow back and sides with a Gold Top, all from Reranch. You can see 4 separate pieces of wood in the body 3 of them on the top
part above the center line. So any thoughts on the color combo? anyone every see anything like that?
Thanks

Never used the Dream 90s... heard that they aren't very P90ish though. I have Tonerider Rebel 90s in an AL2k and they rock hard... fast becoming my

Thanks Stacks was just reading the Mean 90's description and I think I will go for them, that is how this guitar should sound. Hell no I am not
shelling out $200 for this guitar's pick ups. Thats the price I am trying to stay under all together.
Bridge and stop $30
Tuners $25
Neck plate and screws $9
Wiring Kit $28
Mean 90's $70 for 2
That leaves about $40 for paint.
The sad part is this thing won't play near as well at my $200 AL lol

I started some finishing work today, I went ahead and got Minwax Satin spray lacquer for the neck at Home Depot. Since that is an easy fix if I don't
like it. Then I also got a shellac based sanding sealer for the body, and some white shellac primer for the top.
I have sprayed 3 coats on the neck already and am very, very happy with the results. The body also had 3 coats of sanding sealer on. I am going to do
one more on that today and then let it dry overnight. Tomorrow I will tape off the sides and back to lay the primer for the Gold Top. I decided to go
with natural sides and back and Gold Top.
Anyone have a GT with Black Hardware?
I have to order the GT paint, and nitro lacquer from Reranch, but need to wait till my unemployment check comes Wednesday oh the joy of being out of work. One plus is that I have been
playing a lot of guitar. More pics to come.

Thanks TV, yeah I think its going to look killer. The body now has 5 coats of sanding sealer, and is sanded to 320 grit. Then i taped and papered off
the body this evening so that I can spray the 2 primer coats on the top first thing in the morning. I scrounged around the house and car and came up
with enough change to order 1 can of gold and 2 cans of lacquer from Reranch. Hopefully it will be here Thursday or Friday.

3 coats of Shellac based primer on, and sanded to 320 grit on the body. The final 2 coats went on the neck, now I will let that cure for a week or so.
I am not sure if I will wet sand it or not, I may just 0000 steel wool it, cause its smooth as a baby's bottom right now.
Now its just a waiting game for the gold flake and clear lacquer to come in.

Looks awesome. I'm soon (in two weeks) going to start a project like this
myself. I have an old Epi LP100 that I will strip and refinish. I'll keep an eye here for helpful hints. How long did it take you to sand the entire
guitar down to the bare wood?

Well it only had a few coats of something on it lol, not sure what it was. It wasn't stain cause it came off like paint, I may have been a dyed nitro.
Anyway, it took me about 6-8 hours to strip the neck and body. You may want to take a look at this thread before you start stripping that epi. I have
been doing a lot of research while doing this. I have read that with polly you can just sand it real good and color over it, but if you want to go
with a nitrocellulose finish then you will have to strip completely

Just adding a few more pictures, found my old digital camera, since my nice Sony crapped out.

A little update: Had a chrome bridge, my buddy David, had a stop tail, but the chrome bushings are a smaller outside diameter then the brass bushings
that were in the guitar. Of course the chrom screws are M8 1.25 and the brass bushings are 5/16 24. So I am just gonna use the brass screws with the
chrome tail.
Last night I ordered, Wilkinson kluson style tuning pegs, Tusq nut, neck plate, screws, 4 Black speed knobs, 3 way switch, 4 A500k Pots, 2 .047
orange drops, and an output jack. So the only things left are pick ups, I will order them next week. I have some strap buttons i think.
So today I finished sanding the primer on the top to near perfect smoothness, in anticipation of the paint coming tomorrow.
Then I went to my other buddies house, who has more money then god, to get a piece of maple to make the control cover. I made one for the first guitar
a a few months ago, but I had to make it out of two pieces of oak and hand sand it to thickness. it is on the left in the pic below. I said to myself,
I am not going through that crap again. So my buddy has a nice woodworking shop in his basement. I had him plane me a piece of maple to the same
thickness as the first cover. I then traced and shaped it, drilled counter sunk holes and sanded it a little.Of course I have the body all taped off
so I couldn't match the direction of the grain.

I love the look of a wooden back plate. Can't wait to see it finished. Are you leaving the back natural or doing it a color?
